5 Most Popular Types of Computer Software (And What They Do)

As the publisher of a software information website, I often use keyword-research tools* to determine which software-related topics are the most popular (based on Internet search activity). By knowing what people are looking for online, I can build content to help them.

You can't help but notice trends and patterns when doing this kind of research, and I thought you might be interested in some of those trends. For example, in this article I've compiled five of the most popular types of software in the world, based on how often people look them up through Google, Yahoo, MSN and the other search engines.

#1 - Anti-virus Tools

5 Most Popular Types of Computer Software (And What They Do)

For a long time, I've had a conspiracy theory that the companies that make anti-virus programs are in league with the people who create computer viruses in the first place. After all, few things sell anti-virus software like the constant threat of new viruses. Regardless of who's generating the fear, they are doing a good job of it, because anti-virus software is consistently one of the most frequently searched programs.

Most people computer users are very familiar with these programs, because they come pre-installed on most PCs. There is also a dizzying array of software products that fall into this category, so I won't try to summarize them here. That's another article entirely.

#2 - Tax Software

Okay, so there's a very good chance this one made the list because I conducted my research at tax time (in March). Perhaps if I conducted this study later in the year, tax software would not be quite as popular from a search engine usage standpoint. At any rate, it makes the cut today and falls in right behind the anti-virus programs based on the number of searches.

I use these programs every year at tax time. Or, to be honest, I should say my wife uses these programs while I provide moral support. At any rate, these software products are incredibly useful for people who prepare their own tax returns.

Though each program offers slightly different features, they all perform the same basic function. They walk you step by step through the process of completing your tax-return forms. You just fill in the blanks with the requested information, and the software does the rest. Popular tax software programs include TaxAct, TurboTax and TaxCut (by H&R Block).

#3 - Accounting Software

This type of computer program might be high on the list of Internet search for two reasons. For one thing, it's very versatile and can be used by professional accountants, small business owners, and others. Secondly, there are terminology reasons for the Internet search popularity of this software. Some people use the phrase "accounting" when referring to the tax-preparation programs mentioned previously, while others use the phrase when referring to the more full-featured programs used by professional accountants.

Regardless of these semantic differences, accounting software is commonly searched through the major search engines, so it makes my list. These programs are most often used to manage the revenue and expenses of a company, including payroll and corporate tax information.

#4 - DVD Burning Tools

As the name suggests, these software programs allow you to reproduce or "burn" copies of DVDs. Of course, these tools also open a Pandora's box of legal issues, because you cannot just make copies of a commercial DVD without violating copyright laws.

But this is not a legal lesson -- it's a list of popular software types as measured by Internet search patters. And by that yardstick DVD burning programs certainly make the list.

#5 - Video Editing Programs

These software tools allow you to edit video sequences on a computer. You don't even need a fancy computer to use them, but just a regular old desktop unit (as long as its compatible with the software program you choose).

These products have become increasingly popular over the years, thus creating an army of amateur filmmakers. To use them, you would first create the video footage itself. Then you would use this unique and powerful software to edit the footage on any compatible desktop computer. You can import and export video to and from your computer, cut and paste sections of video, and add special effects and transitions.

* Sources: KeywordTracker and Keyword Discovery. I cross-referenced the most common software types from both tools to create this list.

How To Search Public Death Records Online

The proverbial phrase 'last but not least' applies well with death records. Although it is by nature the last records started on a person, it is just as significant in content as other public records if not more. They can include obituaries, death notices and certificates, cemeteries, burials and funeral matters. Personal particulars like name, age, residence, spouse and other surviving family members, cause of passing and so forth are also set within.

Death records are one of the vital records, along with birth, divorce and marriage. They are typically maintained at a government agency within the locality of where the death takes place or the capital city of the state of residence of the deceased. Being public records, they are made available for public access. Restrictions apply, but essentially, anyone can pull out the death records of anyone as long as procedures are followed.

There are different ways of accessing death reports. One can write in, walk in, telephone, fax, or log in online to the respective government offices or commercial information providers. Expectedly, the most widely employed method is by logging in online via the internet. It is fast, easy and convenient, the information age being largely propelled by digitization, so why not?

How To Search Public Death Records Online

There are basically two versions of online death documents, free and fee-based. Government sources are predominantly free, with some charging nominal administrative fees but there don't seem to be any established standards or guidelines as they can be quite varied in many respects. Non-government sources can be free or paid.

There are some websites which provide reasonably decent information free-of-charge but they are likely to have strings attached. A common tactic that is used by commercial information brokers to entice sign-up for their fee-based subscriptions is by offering free search or teaser information. Then again, there's no force involved and free will is retained. Some of them actually deliver very good value for money and thanks to them, Death files won't be dead.

Free Public Police Records Online

Everybody is well aware that the Police are the ones who best answer our distress calls. What is regrettably overlooked by many is that they also bring forth a very sound civil security provision in the form of Public Police Records Online. Yes, there's gold in them and if only people would search Free Public Police Records more often, there would be way less of those distress calls eventually.

Records are a way of life for the Police. They document every liaison with the public into records as a matter of standard procedure. In addition to criminal violation, Public Police Records contain administrative and other civil information. For example, if the Police helped you to the hospital in a domestic emergency, that goes into your Police Records and if you don't have a Police Record File, one will be automatically started for you.

The police are essentially the inherent authorities over Public Police Records. As the Police Function reports into the state government, Public Police Records come under state jurisdiction and there are hence variations concerning them from one state to another. Each state has a central repository that the records are uploaded to and the originating police departments typically also keep them for a period of 5 years.

Free Public Police Records Online

Anybody's Public Police Records are mandated by law to be made available to anyone who wishes to access them as long as it's done in compliance to rules and regulations. Restrictions may apply but they can generally be requested without problem at the local police department of the residence of the subject or at any of the state government agencies delegated with the responsibility.

People use Free Public Police Records in a variety of applications. There's a trend among large corporations to conduct background checks of their employees through their respective Police Records. It is also commonly used in volunteer assessment especially where the work concerns children, old, disabled and other folks whom are deemed to be vulnerable to abuse.

The Public Police Records that we can retrieve from government agencies are normally provided free of charge. Some departments will charge an administration fee but it's usually of nominal amount. The different modes of requesting Free Public Police Records include conventional mail, telephone, fax, walk-in and online over the internet. With more and more public offices offering the online option, it's fast becoming the most popular mode of retrieval.

Free Public Police Records are free of financial cost but not time and diligence. Dealing with public offices can be time-consuming and challenging. For those who are not hot about it, the alternative is to turn to fee-based record providers. The top-tier ones are all highly professional with their products and services. Results are typically available within minutes, minus the fuss and hassle.

10 Texting Rules For Dating Singles - Texting Guidelines and Dating Etiquette

I've found that texting is generally seen as a nuisance for people over the age of 40. For one thing, most of us have fingers that are NOT bony. Those little tiny buttons on the cell phones are ridiculously small.  Plus, many of us have to find our reading glasses so we can even SEE the damn keyboard anyway! Women have the extra challenge of long and/or fake fingernails. Glamourous, sexy, make your hands look great. However, they have absolutely no traction on those little tiny plastic buttons on a cell phone keypad.

So then why is there so much hesitation when it comes to picking up the phone? Has texting become the newest addition to the list of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em?"

I believe the growing preference for texting has a lot to do with its impersonal nature. It's much easier to launch a new relationship by exchanging texts than it is to talk. It's also very easy to say and do things over a screen that one would never have the nerve to do face to face (or say ear to ear). That would make things easier I suppose, but it also creates new problems. A large part of communication is non-verbal. When texting, the other party cannot receive those fine nuances of communication such as tone of voice, held back giggles, excited breathing, or body language that demonstrates anxiety, happiness or growing irritation.

Texting it seems, is here to stay, but there needs to be some rules in place.  After listening to dozens of complaints from friends, coworkers, and family about their relationships and texting, I came up with "10 Texting Rules For Dating Singles."

#1 Do Share Updates or Ask for Simple  Instructions.  On your way but missed your train? Texting to update your date on your revised arrival time is a considerate thing to do.  On your way to the store and can't remember what you are supposed to pick up for dinner at her place? Receiving a texted shopping list can be a life and relationship saver! Had a great first date? Texting the day after to say, "Wow, I had a really great time with you!" is a low key, no pressure way to express appreciation for someone's time.

#2 Never Text While on a Date.  You'd think everyone would know this already, but I guess common sense ain't real common! Texting while in a face-to-face conversation is just as rude as blabbing away on a call.  If you're on a date and you want to see that person again, don't sit there texting (or Twittering) the whole time, or part of the time, or even at all. That includes your best friend trying to sneakily find out how things are going, the Masters of Electronically Transmitted Whining (the kids), or an angry ex who saw you and your date in the restaurant parking lot.  Manners and courtesy must reign supreme.

#3 Texts Should Never Replace Real Conversation. Texting is only for transmitting unimportant information or short and simple messages, not an in-depth conversation. More than four texts in a row... it's time to pick up the phone.  Middle aged fingers and hands cramp easily, okay!? Oh, and if you notice that you are having most of your relationship via texting, you need to move things along to the face to face level or just end it.

10 Texting Rules For Dating Singles - Texting Guidelines and Dating Etiquette

Like I said, the inherently impersonal nature of texting allows someone to "keep in touch" and keep fantasies of a relationship alive, but maintain emotional distance by never spending time with you.  I've known guys to do a cut and paste type of thing and send the same text to a dozen women at almost the same time.  It's a time-saving way to cast a wide net and see who will let him come over for sex.  Women should not make it so easy to be used for uncommitted booty calls.

#4 Does Anyone Care But You?  Do not send text after text describing your every move, every conversation, or every thought.  The fact that your coworker was late for the 10th time this month is of no importance to anyone but you. Get it? Unless what you are texting involves the recipient in some manner, and is very urgent (or at least a funny joke to break up our day), then don't send a text.

#5 Do Not Send Compromising Photos.  Are people these days crazy? What in the world is going on with this "sexting" stuff? Why would females send pictures of naked body parts (including their genitalia) over cell phones? Young ladies, not only is such behavior classless, it's ridiculously dangerous. And if the sender or receiver of a sexually oriented text is a minor, it's also illegal.

The long-term repercussions of this type of loose attitude about one's body has concerned me for a long time. Women are likely to be humiliated to discover that they are the brunt of jokes, as guys will often share the sexy texts they get from random women with their buddies and have a good laugh. You'll then be labeled, and it won't be flattering. Think before you act.

Also important to remember is that some folks don't do well with breakups and their vindictiveness spews forth like an erupting volcano. Your photos or videos could end up anywhere on the Internet, in a magazine, movie, or in a photo composite with someone else's body doing something awful, topped off by YOUR FACE.

#6 If You've Been Drinking, Back Away From the Keypad! People will say and do things with firewater in their systems that they would NEVER do if sober. What types of things have I heard you ask? Sexual invitations to people known to have no interest, fights from months ago renewed with vigor due to unresolved anger, personal questions asked and personal information volunteered in a straight bonehead move. Liquid courage does that to people! Though alcohol doesn't put ideas into our heads, a little booze definitely relaxes the constraints we have in place on our mouths and evidently our fingers. So, if you've been to happy hour(s), or had a few martini's at home, do not send anyone a text. Your texting privileges are revoked until you are 100% sober.

#7 Don't Expect Instant Gratification. Do not get upset if you don't get a reply back within seconds of sending a text. People over the age of 25 usually have full-time jobs, families, and things to do that involve their hands, including cooking, typing, and driving. They'll return your communication with a text or a phone call when they can.  One should also remember that technology is great, but not perfect. I've sent texts that didn't arrive at their destination for 45 minutes to several hours! I've also had the same problem with receiving transmissions sent to me by others.

#8 Always Be Aware of Your "Tone of Voice" and Communication Style. It's difficult to discern the sender's tone in text messages, just as it is in e-mail. What may be meant as humorous sarcasm, or a completely innocuous message to you may be easily misinterpreted by the recipient of your text. Such miscommunication can cause hurt feelings and unnecessary tension, and require an unbelievable amount of apologizing and explaining to fix. In some instances it will cost you the relationship. Watch the shorthand and acronyms as well. Not everyone is up on the textn lingo neway, and yr msg may leave sum1 scratching their head in confusion sayn L8tr4u vs ROFLMAO.

#9 Asking for Dates by Text is a No-No.  Texting to set-up a date is bogus! Have the courage to speak up and risk rejection like a big boy or girl. Yeah, I know you're a recent returnee to the dating scene, talking to someone you don't know well feels awkward, and asking for a date when you might hear "no!" is scary. But one of the top qualities singles seek is a confident partner that goes after what he or she wants. Confident, secure people have an air about them that is very sexy...  passive, hesitant, insecure people do not.

#10 Do Not Break It Off By Text.  Neither do you use Twitter, Facebook, AIM, My Space, MSN messenger, email or fax. Use of any form of informal, emotionally disconnected electronic communication to dump someone is chickenshit. Not only is it immature, it's just plain rude. If you opt to treat other people in such a way, don't be surprised when your text is put on blast and ends up on Twitter, Facebook, My Space and every message forum in the world. Be an adult whydontcha, and tell people via phone (at least) that you two are not a match and you're moving on.

Text messaging isn't necessarily a tool of The Devil, but there can be quite a bit of misinterpretation and miscommunication if not used correctly. Texting is a great way to stay connected to someone you are madly in love with, and a useful tool to touch base with casual or new dating partners. However, texting is not and never will be a replacement for a heart-felt telephone conversation full of sighs and laughter.

Mechanic's Liens - Friday's Free Form - Notice of Intent to Lien - General Contractor

How many times have you been in this situation: You are owed money on a construction project and are thinking of filing a mechanic's lien. But you know that after filing it there will begin a serious dispute process, and probably involving the hiring of lawyers on each side. You would like to send a notice to the other side telling them that if it is not paid, more serious steps will be taken. Well, there is a form to be used in this situation. In my experience, this is a very popular form--so much so we would like to make it available to the construction industry.

This form below warns the owner that you will be filing a mechanic's lien if payment is not made within ten days. Hopefully, it will create a serious dialogue for settlement. Come up with your bottom line amount to settle and be prepared to offer it to the owner if he or she is negotiating in good faith. Remember that the last thing an owner wants is a lien on their property: it jeopardizes title, interferes with their relationship with the construction lender, and prevents refinancing or sale. This Notice is worded in a non-threatening manner so as to capitalize on this situation, with the owner knowing that you are required by law to file a lien within a set period of time or lose your lien rights.

WHO CAN USE THIS FORM? All persons, whether general contractor, subcontractor, or supplier.

Mechanic's Liens - Friday's Free Form - Notice of Intent to Lien - General Contractor

HOW TO SERVE: There is no need to file this with the court or record with the recorder's office. It is simply served by mailing.

WHO TO SERVE: If you are a general contractor, serve the owner and construction lender. If you are a subcontractor or supplier, serve the owner, general, and construction lender.

HOW TO SERVE: Although not required, it is recommended for its effectiveness to be served by certified mail.

WHEN: Serve ten days before you file or record the mechanic's lien. Remember, it does not extend the time to file a mechanic's lien.

NOTARIZED? No.

COPIES: The original signed copies are served. Keep an extra copy for your records.

CERTIFICATE OF MAILING. Use a standard Proof of Service form. Sign this Proof (it is like a certificate of mailing) and staple it to the form so you have proof it was mailed to the various persons or entities.

MARGINS AND FONT. This is a Word document so use the following margins so it prints out properly: Top: 18 pt; Bottom: 22 pt; Left: 58 pt; Right: 58 pt. Type size is 12.

HOW TO USE? Cut and paste the form into a new Word document.

WHICH STATES?

Use this notice only in the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia.

As to California, you can use it until further notice. California is in the process of amending its mechanic's lien statutes which will require a specific notice. Check our web site for that new form.

Ford Motor Company - Case Study

Background (General Facts)

Ford Motors is one of three leading automotive manufacturing companies in the United States. Based in Michigan in 1903 by Henry ford and grew to reach revenue of 0 billion and more than 370,000 employees by 1996 [1]. In the 1970's, the automobile market for the major auto makers - General Motors (GM), Ford, and Chrysler- was crunched by competition from foreign manufactures such as Toyota and Honda. In 1999, Ford acquired the Swedish Volvo model in an attempt to compete in the foreign market and expand to other regions. Furthermore, Ford launched a full organization re-engineering business process plan called "Ford 2000" aiming at reestablishing the company's infrastructure. The process meant reduction in their Vehicle Centers (VCs) to only five covering the operations that spanned 200 countries. It also meant cutting redundancies and requiring Information Technology (IT) to be the driving force and the link between Ford centers worldwide.

In building Ford's IT infrastructure, the company focused on implementing a setup that supported the TCP/IP communication protocol based on the U.S. department of Defense requirements. At those days, Ford internal network was meant to serve files transfer unlike most companies that used the network mainly for email communications. Throughout the 1990's, Ford developed a cost effective Global Enterprise Network Integration (GENI) process to link all its locations compromising on the type of the connection and the cabling in favor of full coverage. During the same time, Ford started building its Web Farm, which was basically a set of hardware and software managed by a team for building Ford's public website. The work started by publishing documents for technical references and moved to more advanced images from a live auto show. As a result, the website received 1 million visits a day in less than 2 years after its official launch. Throughout the end of the 90's, Ford established its web services by increasing the amount of information published, building more intelligent and standard web application in 12 weeks period, purchasing more Netscape browsers for setup on its users' machines, and creating a B2B server to allow the suppliers secured access to Ford's Intranet.

Ford Motor Company - Case Study

In the path towards service cost reduction and bringing more business through the web, Ford worked closely with its competitors in the U.S. market GM and Chrysler to establish what came to be known as "Automotive Network Exchange" (ANX) certificate. The protocols aimed at providing a unified communications standard through the Internet to enable suppliers to provide common technology for all manufacturers. Moreover, Ford focused on making information on its web site more accessible and useful by deploying a team to manage the process of adding and updating information based on an analysis of how humans deal with information. One final aspect of Fords endeavor was to try to build a model through its infrastructure that benefited from the model implemented by Dell computers to improve their supply chain and delivery process. The direct model would not work well for automotives as it would with computers, as a result Ford worked on its retailing network remodeling and identifying what would eventually give it the extra edge in delivery time.

Enterprise Architecture Issues

Ford's regional expansion to address the competition for market shares demanded cost management for the infrastructure upgrades IT infrastructure places limitations on the type of application development based on the platforms Easy access to information and prompt delivery of vital data to key individuals requires proper knowledge managementOrganizations reengineering and process remodeling is necessary when adapting new technologies to maintain the cost and increase efficiency Supply chain errors and delays can severely affect the progress of the business and the market value of the corporation
Analysis

Infrastructure Upgrade

Since the inception of the Internet in the 1960's, much effort has been made in standardizing how computers connect to it. In 1982, the International Organization for Standards (ISO) realized that during that period many ad hoc networking systems were already using the TCP/IP protocol for communications and thus adapted it as a standard in its model for the Internet network [2]. The main driver for IP convergence, at that period, was the growth in data traffic through wide area networks (WANs) established by local companies. Furthermore, in 1991, the Internet was open for commercial use, and that demanded a reduction in the total cost of operating the network to cope with 1 million Internet hosts that materialized in only 1-year time. Telecommunications companies like AT&T understood the potential and worked on standardizing the network offering voice services over IP networks that managed the separation between voice and data transmission [3].

At the same time, Ford had launched its plan to update its infrastructure, and seized the opportunity brought by the global movement of integrating the voice, fax transmission network with data transmission and expanded its WAN to include its offices in Europe and elsewhere. The financial benefits also came from the fact that Ford adapted the TCP/IP protocol from the beginning and made sure that all its technical infrastructure upgrades adhere to the standards. This made the transition of its system to the Internet as cost effective as it could be.

Web Technologies

Intranets employ the hypertext and multimedia technology used on the Internet. Prior to 1989, when Tim burners-Lee invented the Web [4], most applications used standard development languages such as C and C++ to create desktop applications that were proprietary and dependent on the platform. For example, applications running on a command-based operating system such as UNIX would not run under Windows, and those working for PCs might not work on Apple computers and vice versa [5]. The invention of HTML (Hyper-Text Markup Language) introduced a new model for applications that conform to the standards provided by a single program, the "Web Browser". Unlike standard applications, the browser brought a unified interface that had a very fast learning curve. Users seem to require no additional training to work with web browsers. Furthermore, system administrators did not have to spend time installing upgrades on users' machines, since the Intranet client/server architecture facilitated all the updates through the connection with the web server [6].

Since Ford established its Intranet, it was aiming at building web applications through the initial analysis of "Mosaic", the early form of web browsers. The technical department at Ford used web languages to create the first web site in 1995. In 1996, the team started building applications making use of the unified "Netscape" browser that was deployed on all machines at the company, and working on a standard template to cut on the development life cycle. There was a substantial cut in training cost due to the user-friendly interface of web applications. Furthermore, the speed of development made vital applications available to different individuals across the company. For example, the B2B site allowed suppliers remote and secured access to various sections of Ford's Intranet. In addition, the development team created an application as a virtual teardown on Ford's website where Ford's engineers could examine parts of competitors' cars and evaluate any new technologies. The alternative would have been an actual trip to a physical location where Ford tears down cars to examine the parts.

Knowledge Management

While there are many definitions for knowledge, each company might adapt its own based on how it analysis data and information to acquire knowledge. The University of Kentucky, for example, defines knowledge as "a vital organization resource. It is the raw material, work-in process, and finished good of decision-making. Distinct types of knowledge used by decision makers include information, procedures, and heuristics, among others... " [7].

Organizations go through different activities to manage the amount of information they collect to form the knowledge base of the company. Activities include creating databases of best practices and market intelligence analysis, gathering filtering and classifying data, incorporating knowledge into business applications used by employees, and developing focal points for facilitating knowledge flow and building skills [8].

Ford was excited about the traffic it was receiving on the Web site and everyone was publishing all the material they have on desk on the Intranet. Nevertheless, there was a growing concern about the usability and usefulness of the material people were adding. As a result, Ford created a "Knowledge Domain Team" to build complete information in nine areas that were identified as vital to the business. The process Ford took was based on surveys and specialists input in how people perceive information, and what is considered vital and what is distracting in the structure of Ford's website. The aim behind the initiative was to reduce the time individuals spent in searching for information through proper indexing of the website content, and making sure that what was important could be accessed in due time, and what is trivial did not overwhelm the researcher with thousands of results.

Business Re-engineering

In the area of organization's re-engineering process innovation is the set of activities that achieve substantial business improvements. Companies seeking to benefit from process innovation go through the regime of identifying the processes, the factors for change, developing the vision, understanding the current process, and building a prototype for the new organization. History shows that organizations who define their processes properly will not have problems managing the issues and developing the change factors [9]. When introducing technology, business redesign is necessary. The industrial fields have been using Information Technology to remodel processes, control production, and manage material for generations. However, it is only recently that companies recognized that the fusion of IT and business would go beyond automation to fundamentally reshaping how business processes are undertaken [10].

When foreign companies were allowed to compete in the U.S. market, Ford understood that to succeed in business in a competitive arena it needed to implement strategies that competitors find difficult to imitate [11]. As a result, Ford bought Sweden Volvo to enter the European market, and partially owned Mazda to have a competitive edge with Japanese cars1 [12]. To achieve that it re-engineered its production development activities and global corporate organization and processes for dramatic cost reduction. Furthermore, it understood that expansion requires collaboration and alignment, and thus planned to establish the IT infrastructure through a WAN that connected all the offices. In the process of innovation and re-engineering, Ford has set policies to manage the cost of establishing the network, built models for continuous implementation, and organized global meetings to align all parties with the process. Adding to that, when it came to managing the website, Ford facilitated an awareness campaign for all the branches to understand that Ford is using the web to collaborate and research and adapting information technology as a way to maximize its business value. The goal for Ford was to maintain its leadership in the market and to do that in the most efficient and cost effective method that is there.

Supply chain management

Supply chain management (SCM) is about coordinating between suppliers, manufactures, distributors, retailers, and customers [13]. The basic idea that SCM applications revolve around is providing information to all those who are involved in making decisions about the product or goods to manage delivery from the supplier to the consumer [14]. Studies show that reducing errors in supply chain distribution, increases revenue, enhances productivity, and reduces the order-to-fulfillment period [15].

Ford often compared its supply chain process to that of Dell's, in an attempt to close the gaps in its own process and reach the level of success Dell has reached. The difference in the distribution model between Dell and Ford lies in the middle link of using retail shops. Since Ford cannot skip retail as a focal distribution point, it worked on establishing a network of retail shops that it owned. Ford made sure shops are not affecting each other in terms of sales, and gave them all a standard look and feel to establish itself in the consumer's market as a prestigious cars sales retail company. Furthermore, extensive re-engineering initiatives were undertaken to enhance Ford external network by eliminating the correlation with smaller suppliers. In that way, Ford made sure that key suppliers have access to forecasting data from customers' purchasing trends and production information to enable a faster order-to-delivery cycle. Ford vision was to create a model that allowed flexibility, predicable processes and delivered the product at the right time to the right consumer.

Conclusions

Ford is an example of how traditional organizations can mature to adapt what is current and maximizes the business value. The process that Ford went through necessitated the continuous support from management. In addition, it depended on alignment between those involved as a key for success. The correlation was not restricted to internal staff; it extended to cover competitors to reach mutual benefits, to work with suppliers to maintain similar grounds and adequate infrastructure, and to create training programs to educate all on the vision and organization's objectives.

Ford technical progress came at a time where the Internet was yet to reach its full potential. The introduction of Fiber-optic cables in the late 90's and the substantial increase in bandwidth would have helped Ford and cut on the cost in endured connecting its own offices. Furthermore, the ISP services that provided hosting servers were limited to only few players, which explained why Ford preferred to manage its own web server and maintain the overhead of the 24 hours uptime and backup.

From this case study, I understood the level of commitment large firms have to maintaining their position in the market. These companies know the revolving nature of business in the sense of how easy it is to fall back if they did not keep up with the change. The Ford process also shows the need for quick and resourceful thinking when faced with situations that might seem to be unfavorable. The way Ford ventured into the foreign market by acquiring local manufacturers was a strategic decision that did not only enabled Ford to merge with different technologies, but it also saved it the additional cost of establishing production centers in Japan and Europe.

Recommendations

Maintaining leadership in the market requires innovative organizations willing to reengineer to succeed. IT fusion with the business means restructuring and remodeling to understand the role IT would play to meet the business objectives Planning and modeling is vital when coordinating work with large teams. Constructing websites is not about content; it is about understanding what adds value and how humans interact with information. Knowledge management is a plan that companies need to develop as part of their initial business process modeling It is not wrong for large firms to try to adapt to successful processes implemented by other firms.
